Sony Mobile kicks off firmware update for its 2011 Xperia phones

It is time to rejoice for the owners of 2011 Sony Xperia phones. Sony has just kicked off a firmware update extravaganza for its 2011 models of Xperia handsets. Initially the update will be available for users in countries like Norway, Finland, Denmark, Iceland and Sweden; soon, you’ll find it available for Indian customers as well. The list of Xperia phones to get Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich comprises of Xperia Ray, Xperia Arc S and Xperia Neo V.

Firmware update for 2011 Xperia phones

Software update for the above phones will take place over the next four to six weeks, Sony said. By then, other markets will also begin to get the Ice Cream Sandwich update. So, to get the update, users are expected to connect their Xperia phones to a PC or Mac. The update will be available for them in the update page.

Sony introduced the Ray, Arc S and Neo V handsets respectively in August, September and October last year. These Xperia models represent various screen size categories. The Ray has a 3.3-inch screen, the Arch has a 4.2-screen and the Neo V features a 3.7-inch display. All devices are equipped with powerful processors and other innards with the Arc S having a 1.4GHz processor.

Android’s latest Ice Cream Sandwich version has a highly smooth and advanced navigation and other capabilities. Officially launched in December 2011 on Samsung Galaxy Nexus, the ICS is making its way into the previous models. Sony Xperia users have been waiting for the ICS update eagerly since it will completely change the way they have been using their handsets.
