MTI Micro, the makers of Mobion direct methanol fuel cell chip, has now announced a portable fuel cell charger prototype for mobile devices. Well, the fuel cell chargers are nothing new, but this prototype comes with a removable cartridge that can be swapped for a new one when used up. Each additional cartridge gives consumers another 25 Watt-hours of power. It would be enough to fully charge an average cell phone battery over 10 times, play 10,000 thousand songs or watch over 100 hours of video on an mp3 player, or take over 6000 pictures on a digital camera. The new Mobion self-sufficient power pack includes a USB interface that helps recharge mobile phones, digital cameras, portable media players and other mobile devices on the move. Samsung might fund the firm to bring this product to the market soon.
