Instagram for Android hits one million downloads on first day

Have you seen someone flipping through pictures with Instagram on his or her iPhone? If yes, then you might have felt bad about the Instagram deficiency of your Android device. Here is good news for you, now you can also use Instagram because it has now been officially released for Android users and on the very first day, it went into one million eager hands.

Instagram for Android is now available

Before the debut of Instagram, 430, 000 users were already pre-registered for the app and since its release, it is grabbing 2,000 users each minute. If the app continues to grow at the same rate, it will soon take over the iPhone version, which already has more than 30 million users. iOs version of the app took around six months to reach the mark of 5 million customer but at this trajectory, Android version could reach the same milestone within a week.

Instagram is already a super hit app between iOS users and is named as the iPhone App of the Year 2011. It was launched back in October 2010 and soon became a famous way to tweak and share pictures with other users of Instagram or with people on social networking sites including Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr. Users can edit the images through filters embedded in the app and share as well. The iOS version of this app also allows the users to tilt-shift the images. This feature is excluded in Android version and there are no words from Instagram on if or when this facility will be available.

Many Android users rejoiced at the new version of the app while iPhone users voiced their apparent hatred for the news using Twitter. In fact, this small photo sharing app sparked class warfare between Android and iPhone owners, with iPhone users firing more shots with a group of 30 million. Android users responded in general statements of joy.

You can download the Android version Instagram from here. It will only work on Android version 2.2 and above. Right now, the app is unavailable for Android tablets.
