Google, Reliance to woo Indian Android smartphone users with free 3G

Tie-ups between handset makers, mobile OS makers and cellular telecom operators have been in vogue in India for quite a while now. The new tie-up between Google and RCom is the latest in the series, and it promises to bring free 3G services to cellphone users in India who purchase any new Android smartphone which is endorsed by Google.Android

According to the brand new, two-year deal between Google and RCom, all newly purchased smartphones in India will have a bundled free 3G data connection from Reliance, which will give users 1GB of free data usage for the first six months after purchase. An added bonus is the fact that smartphones will also be able to connect to the respective networks of other cellphone operators, and will have the freedom to switch connection to any other operator at any point of time.

As per report, the plan is set to apply to handsets that manufacture Google endorsed smartphones, like HTC, Sont Ericsson, LG and Samsung. This will serve to bring down the monthly cost incurred by the average mobile phone user in India, as well as make the task of setting up a data connection much simpler, with RCom setting up dedicated helpdesks to guide new users.
