The revolution has gone mobile in Rwanda

With cell phone revolution reaching 80 percent of the world’s population, there’s no denying that the fastest adoption of cellphone is occurring in some of the world’s poorest places. However, mobile communication and access to digital information are making the most powerful impact in African nations. The Rwandan government is giving out hundreds of cell phones in an attempt to save pregnant women and babies. Free phones given to community health care workers keep track of all the pregnant women in their villages. The move faces challenges in a nation where nearly 95 percent cannot access electricity however, with Rwanda ranked as the world’s worst nation for maternal mortality, there’s a sense of change and progress.
