Openmoko Neo FreeRunner goes mass-market

The official Openmoko online store will begin offering the Openmoko FreeRunner on or around July 4th. The Linux-enabled Neo FreeRunner is effective with the Open Source community that runs on the 850 MHz or 900 MHz version to support telecommunications frequencies across the globe. The smart phone has the basic software to make calls, send and receive SMS, and manage contacts. With this phone, the users will be able to write and install their own applications. So over the time this smart phone will become smarter and smarter with software updates and other added features. It will come with built-in Wi-Fi, assisted-GPS, and two 3-axis motion sensors and sports a 2.8-inch VGA touchscreen. Apart from these features, oval-shaped handset has Bluetooth 2.0 capabilities, 256 MB of internal memory, and a microSD slot for expanded storage. It measures 4.8 by 2.4 by 0.7 inches, and weighs 6.5 ounces. It is available with EDGE networks and can be purchased at OpenMoko with the price tag of $399.
