Mobile phone users want newer things in minutes. Over the few years, we have realized that the number of people buying smartphones are increasing rapidly. Most of them are lured in by the Android and others prefer the BlackBerry. Most mobile phone manufactures these days use Android to run their device. Android phones offer you great speed and entertainment while the BlackBerry offers you clean, neat and professional support. The latest Android phone to hit the market is Sony Ericsson’s Xperia ray and the the newest member of the BlackBerry family is the Bold 9900. Both these phones are completely different. It will be interesting to see how they face off against each other.
Sony Ericsson Xperia ray
This phone is only 9.4 mm thin with an aluminum body that gives a stylish appearance to the mobile. As expected, it runs on Android 2.3 and the whole navigation experience is lightening quick. It has a large 3.3 inch touchscreen which is quite good. The one thing which amazes most people is the battery capacity of this device. The battery is really good and it lasts long.
BlackBerry Bold 9900
If you are already a BlackBerry user, you will love this phone more than anyone else. Unlike your old BlackBerry, this phone has a softer keyboard, better touchscreen and a faster OS. The screen size is only 2.8 inches but it is wider. Will it fare good against the powerful Android? Let us see.
1. Web browsing
Internet has become a part and parcel of our daily life. Hence, it is very important to have a phone which has better browsing capabilities. In terms of service providing, both the phones are similar. Both have WiFi, 3G and GPRS facilities to enable browsing. They both have class 32 Edge and 2.1 Bluetooth availability.
When it comes down to actual browsing, the Sony Ericsson Xperia ray wins the battle easily. Although both the devices have fast browsers, the Bold 9900 does not support flash content. How will you feel if you cannot stream videos on YouTube or play flash games online? Deprived? Then that is what the Bold 9900 is doing to you.
With a larger touchscreen comes the size problem. Although the bigger screen is attractive, you cannot place this big a device in your pant pockets easily.
When traveling or while sitting, this could be a serious problem. The Xperia ray is definetly larger in size than the BlackBerry Bold 9900.
This one goes to the Bold 9900.
3. Processing power
Both the devices run on a single core processor but the Bold is faster. There are many reasons for this. The BlackBerry Bold 9900 boasts a 768 mb RAM while the Xperia has only 512 mb of RAM.
You can get a BlackBerry bold with a 2 GHz processor if you want but the Xperia Ray offers you only 1GHz. You may not run all the fancy applications on the BlackBerry and hence it runs much faster.
This is where the BlackBerry Bold 9900 thumps the Xperia ray undoubtedly. All of Sony Ericsson’s mobile phones have lacked large internal memories. Likewise, this device too has only 400 mb of internal storage.
On the other hand, the BlackBerry Bold has 8 GB of internal memory which is almost 20 times of what the Xperia has. Large memory means more options and that is always good.
Both the screens are capacity with a good touch input. But, the BlackBerry bold loses in terms of size and clarity. The Xperia has a large 3.3 inch screen compared to the 2.8 inch screen of the Bold 9900. It also offers you better resolution and ppi making it a perfect phone for entertainment.
6. Photo and video
It is absolutely Even Stevens in this area. Both the devices have a 5MP camera, they both lack a front camera, both have flashes and they offer 720p HD video recording.
All the features are almost the same and there is no single victor in this section.
The Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray is slightly better in this section. The phone offers a 1500 mAh battery when compared to the 1230 mAh of the Bold 9900.
This means that the battery of Xperia will last longer when compared to that of the Bold.
There is no victor for this section as well. Both the phones have assisted GPS as well as an accelerometer.
One feature that is missing in both the phones is the presence of a Gyroscope.
9. Network and keyboard
Most features are the same when it comes to network. But the Xperia can act as a Wi-Fi hotspot on its own and it will share the internet connection with other devices.
When it comes to the keyboard, the physical one in the Bold 9900 is always better than the virtual one of the Xperia.
Much simple actually. If you want a high performance phone, go with the Bold 9900. It is much better and faster.
If you want a phone to show off and enjoy, go with the Xperia Ray. It is not too bad.
