‘Dirty’ is Illegal: China Cracking Down on ‘Dirty’ Text Messages

china cracks down on dirty text messages

The Chinese never tolerate ‘dirty’ things, do they? Something as dirty as duplicity and piracy is on the prime in China but there is no law preventing people from doing so. Instead, what the country finds offensive are ‘dirty’ text messages as this practice can harm people’s soul and morality. The Country is now desperate to crack down on such messages and as a consequence, a ‘dirty’ message can even land you up in jail along with a fine and the extent of punishment varies from province to province. For instance in Henan- sending an inappropriate text can land you a 5-day jail sentence. Send three such messages and you face a 10-day sentence alongwith a $73 (500 yuan) fine. More so, in Liaoning, such a message will make you face sexual harassment charges. This is a crazy country where the wrong things are seen in the right context while the ones that hardly bother the world are prohibited by law. God give China some Sanity!
