Much hype and buzz was created in the market with the launch of Nokia N9, most of this buzz was associated with the connectivity issue of N9 with PC or MAC. Whosoever owns this phone will certainly want to transfer files from computer into the phone. However, connecting Nokia N9 with PC or MAC is bit different from other models. First of all, only some of the versions of Nokia PC Suite are known to support N9 which is one of the most powerful tool for connecting Nokia phones with computer. However, Nokia has launched another specialized software Nokia Link for this purpose. There are some other facts which you must keep in your mind before connecting your Nokia N9 to a PC or Mac.

1. Nokia Link for N9

One of the most important task that you will want to accomplish after connecting your Nokia N9 with your PC or MAC is transferring music and photos. Nokia has launched a special software for this purpose known as the Nokia Link. In fact, it is your only option when it comes to connecting your Nokia N9 with PC. However, not much flexibility is provided even with Nokia Link as you can transfer music and photos only. Another problem which you may have to face is that Nokia Link does not runs on Windows XP.

2. Can be used for mass storage

Once you connect your Nokia N9 with your PC or MAC, you can use it as a means for mass storage. In fact, connecting your mobile this way with your computer is perhaps the easiest option available to you. All that you need to do is to plug in the USB cable to the computer and phone and then select “Use for Mass Storage”. Your Nokia N9 will be shown as an icon or under “Phone Browser”. One of the drawbacks of this approach is that some of the applications in your Nokia N9 will not run while it is connected with the computer. However, there is even one positive aspect of this approach, the phone battery will recharge whilst it is connected in this mode.

3. Apps can’t be installed via Nokia Store Website

Most of the Nokia users must have observed that Nokia Store provides an option of downloading apps on the computer from where they can be transferred to the phone via cable/bluetooth. This is one of the most popular methods of downloading apps from Nokia Store. However, the story is entirely different with Nokia N9, as you cannot install apps through your computer. All that you will be provided with is an option to send an sms to your phone which will allow you to download and then install the app directly on the phone.

4. Nokia PC Suite works with Nokia N9

Not many people will have the idea that even the old Nokia PC Suite works with Nokia N9, and that is why everyone is just looking for those software which supports Nokia N9. However, not all versions of Nokia PC Suite are known to support Nokia N9, but still some of them do. Nokia PC Suite is best suited for the business users as this provides them an opportunity to type, send and receive messages on their computer. This way you don’t have to look into your mobile again and again.

5. Ovi Suite does not works with N9

Although some of the versions of the Nokia PC Suite are known to support Nokia N9, but it has been confirmed that the Ovi suite is currently not supporting Nokia N9. When you will try to connect the N9 via Ovi Suite, a “thanks for coming” screen will be displayed on your computer.

6. Apps can’t be installed via Nokia PC Suite

Earlier Nokia PC Suite used to be the most useful tool when it came to downloading and installing apps. Although some of the versions of Nokia PC Suite support N9, but still none of them allows you to install apps. Simply dragging the application to the phone is not going to work here as it used to be with earlier models. If you want to install apps, then you’ll have to look for other options, perhaps downloading and installing apps directly on the phone is the easiest method.

7. Use bluetooth

Transferring files from computer into the phone with the help of bluetooth is another option available with Nokia N9. All that you need is a computer which supports bluetooth connectivity, simply pair your computer with your Nokia N9 and from the next moment onward, you’ll be able to transfer files. The only drawback of this approach is that the speed is somewhat slow when compared with connection made through USB cable.
