Areas where Apple iOS 5 outplays Android Ice Cream Sandwich

Apple iOS 5

Android became a rage after its release and Apple was left in the backdrop to do a little thinking and restructuring. But Apple, being the tough competitor that it has proved to be in the past, came up with the iOS 5, a brand new operating system, with features that would leave one’s jaw hanging till the knee. Having been released around the same time as Android’s Ice Cream sandwich, it has proved to be better than the latter in many ways. Let’s take a look at all the areas where the iOS5 brought home the bacon.

Showdown

1. Malware

Now, this is where most operating systems takes a beating, like Android just did. As far as the iOS 5 is concerned, there is, at present, nothing to infect it, and it makes the iPhone reliable. But this is not the case with Android phones. Though a wide range of handsets happen to be backed by this operating system, they also face malware issues, which happen to mess with everything that’s on the phone.

2. Applications

Apps have become everyone’s center of attention. Whether it’s an application that measures the number of steps you took during your morning walk, or one that shows where you exactly are on a map, they’re what people are looking for, in today’s day, when they’re about to buy a phone. This is where Apple’s taken the prize again. Apple, apart from being the first to have an App market is also one to feature the maximum number of applications. Dear Android, we’re sorry again.

3. User interface

Rage or otherwise, truth be told, Android takes a little getting used to for those first timers, who’ll have to look for what they want, and a few menus later, they’ll finally manage to find it. This isn’t the case with the iOS5. It’s been designed with beginners in mind, and so, the moment you pick up an iPhone, you know where to find what.

4. Gaming

Again, it’s the iOS that’ll bag all the credit. Android may have been designed to be a flexible operating system, but nobody ever mentioned it as every gamer’s choice. The iOS5 happens to provide a gaming platform that also allows social gaming, and hence appeals to the younger generation a lot more than phones running on Android.

5. Voice

We sure are being hard on the little green creature, but Android doesn’t take voice commands very well. This is a great feature that has been integrated with the iOS5, and voice commands in the most natural tone can be understood and translated by the phone. Nothing short of “Wow” makes life simpler and easier, if not lazier.

Face off

Thanks to Apple’s iOS 5 and Android’s Ice Cream Sandwich being released around the same time, people are now having a tough time to decide the better one. Though the iOS 5 has its advantages, Android has left no stone unturned in answering back. Here are some areas where both of them have almost equaled each other.

1. While Android made sure that they improved the voice command function with version 4, iOS 5 beat Android to it, with Siri, Apple’s voice app, doing all the managing in the building by fixing appointments, giving out reminders and practically speaking to you, as far as the phone operations are concerned.

2. Android has a pattern lock system that’s famous with most phones nowadays, but Apple gave its users something even better – a face lock. Till such time the phone sees your face, it won’t unlock, and unless your clone turns up, your phone’s safe from any kind of theft.

3. Now here’s where Android will get a little break. Google made sure that it takes its camera a few steps ahead of everything else. One can now shoot panoramic views, edit them and post them to Google+, all at the drop of a hat.

Feature comparison

Google Maps – Android vs. iOS 5

And we thought Siri was doing absolutely everything. Well, there’s one thing that she wasn’t doing and it was reading out the maps. While Android gives one the turn-by-turn voice readouts when it come to the maps, Apple only made it easier to see them, and not hear them.

Camera

Yet again, Android takes the prize. What you can do with an Android phone is amazing. The iOS5 gives access to only a few features, that allows one to click pictures with a couple of effects, maybe, but there’s no way you can edit and post it to a social networking site at the same time.

Near field communication

While Android supports NFC, Apple is yet to bring it in, but we sure do hope that it’s worth the wait.
