Verizon Galaxy Nexus

Overview:

The mobile phone carrier Verizon wireless, launched in United States one year back, had spread riddles. But this celebration was short lived. In about a period of 24 hours from the launch the customers started complaining on several aspects of it. The customers faced the problem of accessing the service. Some just complained of data access being unavailable. This issue wasn’t confined to single area. At the same time it was found that not all customers were affected. Later the company reportedly said that they were working on solving the issues. It was also stated that only 4G services were affected and not 3G. The 3G users could continue availing the services. Ultimately Nexus could overcome the difficulties in the affected areas. But on the other side it was a setback to the launch of Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

Pricing and availability:

The launch date for the Galaxy Nexus has not yet been announced. But from the leaked sources it has been informed that the launch probably may happen on December 9, 2011. The expected sell out price is about $299.99 for a two year contract. The ice cream sandwich debuts in United States which is already in sales in United Kingdom. This is though a different version. Only new feature in it can integrate with faster 4G LTE network.

What’s great?

The most eagerly awaited Smartphone of this year, Galaxy Nexus, will run on Android 4.0 ice cream sandwich with a 1.2GHz dual processor. It will have 4.65 AMOLED display with a 5MP rear and 1.3MP front facing camera. It has 16GB internal storage capacity. It has Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi direct, 3G and NFC. It has facility of face unlock, Android beam, and many more. It has audio jack of 3.5mm and a RAM of 1GB. It will have features which will be the combination from all the previous versions.

What’s not so great?

Google Wallet is mobile payment app which made the payment through credit card, debit cards or master cards easy. There were rumors about Nexus not supporting Google Wallet mobile payment application. But later the company clearly spoke on the issue. It was said only because of some hardware problem, Google Wallet was not supported. The possibilities though were never swayed by the company of not having the app in the most awaited product. This app needed some special integration into a secured part where all financial info was stored. This intended a much more pondering as would risk security of the buyer as well as user. The proprietor of this component is Verizon. The talks are on between the two companies on resolving the issue.

Things to watch out for:

If the customers have been counting days for December 9, then they could be disappointed. The launch has been postponed, rumors say. The phone’s status reads ‘coming soon’. It’s been really confusing, since December 13 is one more day people could just watch out for. These are rumors either from leaked source or independent retailers. But officially, Verizon did not announce anything. For now any news is to consider a rumor, by default. These are much testing the patience of the customers.

Verdict:

The delay of the launch is mainly due to the 4G issue and not phone. There could be further delay in the days to come. It makes it even more interesting. A Smartphone being delayed this way plus the omission of Google Wallet App. A serious setback!! Mostly being questioned on why was there no way found on Google Wallet app issue. This could be answered only when the phone would be launched in the market. Many serious questions await the launch. The indefinite answer to the launch date is caging too much attention than required, maybe a way for gaining instant popularity.
