Texas Instruments develops smallest linear LED driver for cellphones

texas logo 48I wonder if we will be having the cellphones like the size of credit cards in the coming future. Every cellphone manufacturer seems to be busy developing slimmer and smaller handsets. A few days back, Samsung took wraps off the world’s slimmest LCD panel. Texas Instruments is following the same trend and has announced a linear LED driver that they claim to be the smallest till today. This “two-bank, low dropout (LDO) regulator” has been made to support “LED lighting in portable applications.”

The miniature 1.2 mm x 1.2mm linear LED driver is available for order in batches of 1,000 for $0.65 per piece. For your info, Texas Instruments has also revealed its plans to build a chip named ‘eCosto’ that will put the video cell phones in the hands of customers for a very meager price.
