I wonder if we will be having the cellphones like the size of credit cards in the coming future. Every cellphone manufacturer seems to be busy developing slimmer and smaller handsets. A few days back, Samsung took wraps off the world’s slimmest LCD panel. Texas Instruments is following the same trend and has announced a linear LED driver that they claim to be the smallest till today. This “two-bank, low dropout (LDO) regulator” has been made to support “LED lighting in portable applications.”
The miniature 1.2 mm x 1.2mm linear LED driver is available for order in batches of 1,000 for $0.65 per piece. For your info, Texas Instruments has also revealed its plans to build a chip named ‘eCosto’ that will put the video cell phones in the hands of customers for a very meager price.
