Spice to launch Android smartphones with embedded security solutions

Spice, one of the semi-major mobile carriers in the country has decided to raise the bar with regards to security in their upcoming range of MI (Mobile internet) smartphones. These smartphones are apparently going to be India’s first in the “Secure Android” line of phones. These devices will be capable of offering pre-embedded security solutions to end users. The motive behind this initiative is to underpin S Mobility’s efforts of providing more security-wise smartphones which are otherwise prone to data corruption via internet threats and m-commerce.

'Secure Android' handset range

On a mean estimate, it is reasonably established that there are various threats to which an average smartphone can fall prey. The results could be data modification and even transmission of data in a furtive manner. Industry experts claim that mobile phone viruses are existent in over 600 varieties and mostly claim the system integrity of smartphones. With 2013 around the corner, the global count of smarphones is expected to surpass 1 billion. According to a popular industry conjecture, 26 out of every 100 phones sold globally will be smartphones and by 2015, smartphones will claim a stronghold of 40 per cent over the entire global mobile market. For such reasons, as quoted above, the need for robust phone security cannot be overemphasized.

In a solution offered by Spice, an anti-virus will be used to provide real-time protection against internet threats. It will also give users the flexibility to set fixed data scan schedules in the device along with the SD card. Further security has been provided by Network Manager that gives access to data traffic and sets monthly data transfer threshold. Adding to the list are the features like anti-theft and Vault-privacy lock for securing applications like SMS, videos, photos, Call register and secret contacts. Around 50,000 retail points will make the latest series of handsets available across the country, along with Saholic and the 750+ Spice HotSpot retail grids.
