Qualcomm might receive broadband wireless spectrum this month

The exigency for deeply rooted high speed data services inside the mobile devices cannot be laid low for the obvious reasons. Keeping this into consideration, the United States based chip manufacturer Qualcomm has taken yet another step in the Indian market and may finally latch onto broadband wireless access spectrum by this month itself.Qualcomm

Although there is an imperative procedure to be followed internally, the authorization may soon be provided to the company. But according to the department of telecom secretary, the final decision pertaining to the broadband wireless spectrum will soon be conveyed to the chip manufacturer.

However, the company had got hands on spectrum for high speed data services in four major regions of the country, including Mumbai, Delhi, Kerala and Haryana. Whereby, the auction was executed by DoT in June 2010 and laid out approximately Rs. 4,912.54 crore. Nonetheless, the company is yet to acquire the spectrum as Qualcomm was part of a disagreement with DoT.

To provide an overview, both the companies have had differences in opinions after the department in September 2011 threw out and disapproved its application for an Internet Service Provider license due to delayed (though unintentional) submission. In fact, DoT even went ahead stating that the chip manufacturer’s application sought four licenses in the name of distinct entities.

Subsequent to which, Qualcomm moved towards telecom tribunal TDSAT which eventually ordered in the company’s favor. However, the spectrum is yet to be allocated and may look forward to accomplishing some really interesting benchmarks as far as the high speed data services are concerned.

Moreover, Qualcomm is endeavoring to exit the joint venture with Global Holdings and Tulip Telecom once it manages to establish a long term evolution or LTE network. Though it might be too early to affirm anything, but the broadband wireless access services in India should certainly anticipate enhanced growth and overall development.
