Though there is no dearth of smartphones these days, sometimes we get to hear about some of those really special ones that are actually worth reading about. One such smartphone was recently unveiled by Qisda Corp, Taiwan at the 2008 WiMAX Expo Taipei. The new smartphone supports IEEE802.16e mobile WiMAX, wireless LAN, and GSM/GPRS/EDGE networks. It belongs to the group of smartphones which use Windows Mobile 6.1 as an OS. The model supports WiMAX via SIP/VoIP networks and voice calls made via wireless LAN. These days, speed being a huge issue, most mobile companies are prioritizing WiMAX speed. This being the case, Qisda Corp’s smartphone has about 2Mbps speed which can be increased to 8 to 10 Mbps after tuning.

The Taiwanese government is one of those Asian tigers which have monopolized the technological realm and kickstarted the M-Taiwan project which intends promote the WiMAX industry. The Qisda Corp smartphone is a test handset used in this project. A dual handset for 3G and WiMAX is also on its way.
