The cellphone has really come out as THE multi-purpose, all-in-one gizmo in the new millennium. There are phones that can measure your wellness, there are phone that can open doors for you and then there are phones that can even tell you if you’ve got bad breath! Joining the ranks of super-smart cellphones is this very unique, very sci-fi gizmo that can apparently help you check you DNA! Bizarre as this new app is, scientists at Berkeley have successfully been able to integrate a cellphone with software that uses electrostatic technology to examine your genetic materials. The DNA is prepared first in a lab and then put on a micro array where Negatively charged micro spheres are spread across the surface that push themselves into clumps as they move away from same charge DNA area. The resulting clumps are large enough to be recorded via the phone’s camera. The technology should make DNA testing a whole lot simpler and cheaper. Geez, that ought to make cheating spouses with love children very uncomfortable!
