Don’t accept JPEGs from strangers on your Razr

motorola razr JxsUK 48Tired of hacking computers, the hackers are now trying to spread their lethal tentacles into the mobile world. They have found a vulnerable target in the Motorola Razr phones. The malicious code comes to the cell in the form of an MMS containing a corrupt JPEG image which when downloaded will start off with its malicious activity. This happens because of a defect in the JPEG thumbprint component of the EXIF parser. The corrupt JPEG file corrupts the memory of the cellular phone in turn enabling the execution of the malicious code on it thus damaging its functionality. Motorola says that it requires acceptance of the corrupted JPEG by the mobile user to execute before it affects the phone and is a rare occurrence. However to be on the safer side don’t download any JPEGs sent by unknown sources. Better still-don’t open any MMS messages from unknown sources.

Aware of the vulnerability from almost a year, Motorola said that it has corrected the flaw in all its newer versions of mobile phones and advised its customers to download all relevant software from its official site.
