Indian Mobile manufacturing company Spice showcased their new phone at Mobile World Congress ’08 equipped with an optical disc drive. This drive is placed on the backside of their cellphone and its door pops up like old cassette players. The drive can read from a disc with a storage space to accomodate up to 2.5 hrs of a video. There is no info regarding the format of the video that is used on these discs. Already 40 movie titles are available on these mini-discs and most of them are Bollywood hits. They plan to release 1000 titles in a year.

This surely sounds good for a country where there is no proper alternate for buying movies for portable players yet. Hopefully they’ll also start some downloadable services so that people can enjoy movies on their current phones.
