Huawei to start shipping the ultra-slim Ascend P1 in May

The Chinese tech maker Huawei will release its much-touted Ascend P1 smartphone in May, 2012, in markets across the globe. The CES 2012-demoed Android Ice Cream Sandwich handset will hit stores in Taiwan, Australia and Hong Kong next month. Markets in Latin America will get the device in June and the Europe in summer. North America will only get it sometime after that. The Ascend P1 is known for its 7.69mm thick body, which makes it one of the slimmest phones in the world.

Ascend P1 smartphone

At CES 2012 in Las Vegas, Huawei grabbed the attention of spectators with its new line of Ascend P smartphones, which also contain the Ascend P1 S, the world’s slimmest phone with a density of 6.7mm. The company is yet to announce availability of the Ascend P1 S, though. The upcoming Ascend P1 is certainly a high end Android handset. The device features a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display that packs 540 x 960 pixels at 256 ppi.

The Huawei phone is powered with a dual-core 1.5GHz TI OMAP4460 CPU, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of ROM and 32GB microSD slot. On the rear panel, the Ascend P1 sports an 8-megapixel rear camera with the backside-illuminated sensor (BIS) for enhanced image clarity and low-light performance. To add to its musical capability, the Ascend P1 features Dolby Mobile 3.0 + 5.1 surround sound support and much more.

Connectivity features like Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n), Bluetooth 3.0 and DLNA make the device far rich. Huawei hasn’t exposed the possible price of the smartphone, which is to certainly make movements in global markets.
