Homemade cell phone interceptor: How’s this for a hoax?

This is a video that’s floating around the web claiming to show people how they can build their own cellphone interceptor. All this can be done using materials that aren’t too cutting edge. At least that’s what the video claims. How about combining a universal remote, a lapel microphone, a metal bowl and a jeweler’s watch kit to put this entire contraption together to eavesdrop on couples coo-cooing? And then, this video goes on to describe how all this is put together. But, the smart alec narrator in the video forgets to mention almost anything about a decoder that is so essential to intercept signals of almost any kind. By the way, mobile phones work on radio waves, not on infrared waves that universal remotes generally come with. All these discrepancies point out to a nice little hoax that has some real potential lure unwitting people into trying out this absurd idea. On a lighter note, this video of course makes for a nice little email forward that will snare more than a couple of people. However, Don’t try this at home.
