Foldable rather a rollable phone – New concept design from Motorola

motorola rollable phone concept
Cell phones are acquiring new shapes and sizes incorporating new technologies. A new concept of mobile phone has emerged from Motorola. The phone has not yet become a reality but the company has applied for a patent for the ‘User Interface System’. The concept if materializes will revolutionize the world of communication. An ideal communication device would be easy to carry incorporating all the features of a desktop device. In reality, it is difficult to synchronize size with usability. To solve this problem Motorola has developed the concept of a mobile phone with a rollable display and keyboard. The company hopes to use electroheological fluid underneath the rollable display or keyboard. When electricity is applied to the electroheological fluid, it assumes the solid state and it reverts to the liquid state once the electricity is withdrawn.

When a call comes or requirement arises, the user will just push a button that brings electric current into the system and the display or the keyboard immediately attains the solid state and the user can use the device. When your work is over press the button and the display folds back. All the electronics of the device will be contained in a solid container with enclosures to store the flexible display.

If this concept materializes then the world will find mobile phones as small as matchboxes or even pea sized.
