Leeds University researchers have developed a mobile phone which can measure the vital signs of a patient. This phone would aid the patients in monitoring their health and receiving advice and that too from the comforts of their couch. Using Bluetooth connection the phone communicates with the wireless devices attached to the patient and get details regarding their blood oxygen and glucose levels. All the details are then stored and uploaded on to remote server which is examined by the doctor. The patient could get details with regards to health data too.

The advantage of this phone is that it would cut down on the number of visit to the doctor’s clinic and hence save out on expensive medical bills. The patients can also keep a tab on the progress of their health by manually entering nutrition related data or undertaking psychological tests on the phone. A prototype testing is about to begin with full fledged trials beginning next year.
