The leading mobile service provider in the US rural markets, Alltel has announced on Thursday that they have revamped the user interface of their cell phones to make it easier for the end consumers to navigate wireless data applications.

Since Alltel is lagging behind its rivals in revenue generation from data applications such as mobile Web surfing, it hopes the new interface dubbed ‘Celltop‘ to add to its revenues by allowing more services through mobile devices.

The new Celltop interface is claimed to be much easier for the mobile users as it arranges a phone screen into as many as 10 cells that offer short cuts to applications such as call logs, SMS inboxes, weather and news.

The newly developed Celltop interface is totally free and will be very soon available with the Samsung U520 handset. Alltel plans to make this interface available on five mobile phones by the end of March and on all its models by the end of 2007.
