T-Mobile and Orange UK have joined forces in the United Kingdom to become the biggest carrier in the second biggest European market. As a consequence of the merger, the unnamed alliance will now have a user base of a whopping 28.4 million people which is 37% of the market share. The deal which is expected to close in November will cost somewhere between 400 and 600 million pounds. The collective savings of around half billion pounds annually will be apparent by 2014 as this will be a consequence of the removal of duplicate base stations and retail outlets. The merger will directly benefit the efficiency of the operational staff and the customer support. Orange chief executive, Tom Alexander, will be chief executive of the new company, while T-Mobile UK chief executive, Richard Moat, will serve the joint venture organization as the chief operating officer.
