Samsung Galaxy Beam to hit Indian shores this April

Samsung Electronics is all set to ship its pico projector-featured Galaxy Beam smartphone in India in April 2012. The Korean tech giant announced the Galaxy Beam at the recent Mobile World Congress 2012 in Barcelona, Spain. The Galaxy Beam is not indeed the first phone to mount a projector. Samsung Show in 2009 hit stores with a less sophisticated projector, but the Galaxy Beam comes to a market that will passionately admire an advanced pico projector on a phone. In India as well, consumers will warmly receive this Samsung handset, which will at least become a high-end portable projector for enterprise users and educational instructors.

Technical specifications

The Galaxy Beam is a rich Android smartphone. The device comes with a 1GHz dual core CPU, Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread and a whopping 6GB of RAM. The device sports a 4-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of WVGA (800 x 480) pixels. The smartphone will sport a 5-megapixel back camera with 720p video capability and1.3-megapixel front camera for video chatting. There will be an 8GB of on-board memory, plus a 32GB expandable microSD slot. When it comes to the projector aspect, the Beam sports a 15 lumens lamp, which can project 50-inch wide HD content on any surface out there. The device is 12.5mm thick in size and it rocks an ergonomic design. A 2000 mAh battery powers the Galaxy Beam.

Expected price and availability

Samsung hasn’t revealed the official price of the Beam in India. Most likely, it will be priced at Rs.40,000. The device will be available for grabs in Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai on day it hits Indian market. The exact release date of the device is yet to come from Samsung.
