RIM slashes BlackBerry smartphone prices by 26 percent

RIM is experiencing falling sales of its Blackberry phone internationally, except for the Indian and Chinese markets thanks to the fact that the youth in these countries still hanker for these gadgets. RIM has been looking to push up the sales figures this year with the coming of its new CEO, Thorsten Heins. There hasn’t been much new products from Blackberry so it relies on its select bestsellers to drive sales.

India is now the second biggest mobile phone market in the world and RIM has decided to slash prices up to 27 percent. Its bestseller phone, BlackBerry Curve 8520 would now come at a price of Rs. 8,999 instead of Rs. 10,990. Other phones to get price cut are Curve 9380, Curve 9360 and BlackBerry Torch, which are to cost Rs 16,990 (previously Rs 20,990), Rs 18,990 (previously Rs 19,990) and Rs 21,990 (previously Rs 29,990).

This is a great news for those who had been looking recently to buy one of the Blackberry phones as the prices has been slashed considerably. Meanwhile, RIM will hope that this price slash will help it stay in the competition it is facing from the likes of Apple and Samsung. It is rumored to launch the Blackberry 10 series phones by the end of this year, which will be based on Playbook’s OS.
