A joint project between Nokia, CalTrans, and Berkeley’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering was out testing an innovative traffic-monitoring software which uses GPS featured in Nokia handsets to predict traffic patterns and help drivers get to their destinations in the shortest possible time. The research is based on using the data sent by the phone to determine each car’s speed and position on a freeway to analyze and predict the best route for drivers. Though the research is till in its infancy, the possibilities are thrilling. Peep the vid below for the coverage of the test conducted by the California Center for Innovative Transportation (CCIT).
