Magnificent seven : Nokia’s new range for emerging markets

Target Customers: Budget conscious people in emerging markets.

While NTT Docomo announced 22 new handsets, Nokia has unveiled a range of affordable phones for the emerging markets. These new phones will offer services focused on email, agriculture and education in emerging markets. The list includes Nokia 7100 Supernova, 5130 XpressMusic, 2323 classic, 2330 classic, 2320 classic, 1661 and 1202. Let’s take a look at all of them one by one.

Nokia 7100 Supernova: The Nokia 7100 Supernova is the latest entrant to the famed Supernova collection and it comes with a high-resolution 2.0-inch QVGA color display, FM radio and a 1.3-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, Nokia’s online photo sharing service, and Ovi support. The 7100 Supernova will be available in the Q4 2008 for an estimated $100.

5130 XpressMusic: The Nokia 5130 XpressMusic features dedicated music keys, a standard 3.5mm audio jack, FM radio, 2-megapixel camera, 2-inch QVGA display, Bluetooth, USB connectivity, and a microSD card slot. The music phone, in Red and Blue, will start shipping in the Q1 of 2009 for $120.

Nokia Classics: The Nokia 2330 classic, Nokia 2323 classic and the Nokia 2320 classic tout a 65K color display with a resolution of 128 x 160 pixels. The Nokia 2323 and 2330 classic will feature FM radio, and the Nokia 2330 will also come with a built-in VGA camera and Bluetooth connectivity. The 2330 classic will sell for $65 while the rest two will retail for $55.

Nokia 1661: Priced at $40, the 1661 is the second cheapest among all. It features flashlight, an FM radio, multiple phonebooks, 128 x 160 pixels 65K color display, and two dual-band GSM versions.

Nokia 1202: Here comes the cheapest of all the seven phones launched. The 1202 enjoys enhanced battery life, a flashlight and separate phonebooks for up to five users. Available in Midnight Black and Violet Blue, it will sell for a mere $35.
