Motorola Flipout, the teeny tiny handset daubed in vibrant hues looks rather stylish. The compact touch screen and the flip out QWERTY keyboard are excellent. The mobile slots in all handy features like music player, camera, web browsing, email and messaging. It syncs easily with other gadgets. Most Andriod based phones are getting trendy with designs and also updating their exteriors. The compact size of Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 mini grabbed many eyeballs. Now, it looks like Motorola Flipout is also game for the challenge.

Performance

All functions are powered by Android 2.1 (Éclair) and therefore oodles of apps can be loaded on the handset. The touch screen has a resolution of 320×240 pixels and color output of 256K, which is quite average. You will have to put some effort to check out displays on the screen as it mostly remains in the landscape mode. To view the few apps available in the portrait mode, you will have to rotate the handset sideways. A sizable RAM runs things speedily and allows loading of many apps. Another high point of the phone is it’s easy to use keyboard.

Features

Motorola Flipout has many useful features. The 2.8 inch capacitive touchscreen is quite wide. The connectivity options are good and the handset can play sonic tunes and click snaps. The phone has GPS, 3G, Bluetooth 2.1 and even supports wireless technology. Although a 3.15MP focus camera has been slotted in, it does not have a flash. Transfer files, music albums and photos to your PC easily using the microUSB port. It has an internal memory of 150 MB, which can be expanded by inserting a 32GB microSD card. The handset has 512MB of RAM and a 600MHz processor.

Design

The peppy phone can zap your mood instantly. It is available in a lineup of dazzling pops. There are shades of red, orange, blue, green and even neutrals. The pocket sized Flipout phone has a swivel instrument slotted in. Don’t worry about the swiveling mechanism getting wobbly with time as its fit is solid and strong. However, the phones keyboard and screen are really cramped due to its miniature size. At 3.8 ounces, the compact phone is quite flimsy and measures just 2.64, 2.65 and 0.67 inches along the sides. The Andriod interface is familiar and has seven cool home screens.

Bottomline

If you are looking for a smartphone that is not too hi tech, then this is the device for you. The swivel action and colorful façade are simply great. Its Android platform has the usual essentials. You might take some time getting used to Motoblur but after a while you will really like its portable hub. But despite having a slew of practical features, the phone is not that great on delivery. The voice quality is just about average and the camera operation is disappointing. However, if you have a quirky or peppy style, then this handset is made for you.
