MicroUSB phone charger becomes standard sooner than expected

Soon the European Union would be passing a regulation that would require all cellphone manufacturers to integrate a microUSB port for charging the phone. Well, the regulation did require the consent of all major phone manufacturers that includes-Nokia, Samsung, Apple, Sony Ericsson, RiM, NEC, Qualcomm and Texas Instruments. Apparently, the regulation would be restricted to data-enabled phones while the basic phones will continue with proprietary chargers. The market pundits expected this to happen sometime in 2012, but contrary to their expectations, the microUSB would become a standard next year beginning with Europe.
