Build quality, performance and affordability are the three factors in a cell phone from which the user can pick any two. Starting with affordability and moving on to build quality, Micromax phones are now hitting the build quality parameters as well. Being Indian in origin, Micromax seems to get its consumer perfectly in its X500 handset. Packed with multimedia features, the phone comes with a superb 5 MP camera and good audio / video players. Designed with cutting edge technology for great looks, the x500 is great value for money and looks all set to flood the market.
As stated earlier, the emphasis in the x500 seems to be on delivering high quality in limited features that are being offered. The camera shoots excellent pictures and comes along with the anti-blur feature. While the camera is sure to enthrall, one only wishes that the external memory was expandable at least to 8 GB to store the pictures. The same complaint holds for the excellent audio and video players that come in the phone – if only one could store more content! The 800 mAH Li-ion battery performs well and lasts relatively long. The Bluetooth has a good range and performance and the phone comes with the TV-out option. The touchscreen performs fairly well barring a few inconsistencies.
Usually, MIcromax offers a low-quality version of all kinds of features. We see a slight change in tactics with the x500. It has a few features and all of them are of the highest quality! Take the 5 MP camera for instance. Such cameras are not expected on phones of this price range. But the Indian customer loves a camera and the x500 provides one with a 4x digital zoom lens.! An LED flash along with autofocus, face-tracking, sports mode and anti-shake aid good photography. The handset has video capabilities as well. The Opera mini browser enables basic internet activities like email while the audio and video players embedded assure a good multimedia experience.
Like most of the other Micromax phones, the x500 definitely looks stylish and much grander than the phones of its price range. The high-quality camera with the lens increases the bulk and width of the handset which still weighs only 110 grams. The touchscreen has a resolution that is among the lesser ones but it is bright and sharp. It comes along with the ‘sense flow’ technology – whatever that means! The ‘call’ and ‘reject’ buttons along with a four-way central button are located below the screen. The speaker on the back has been positioned on the lower side unlike most other phones. The sleek-black finish gives a very elegant and perfected feel to the phone apart from making it scratch-free, smudge-free and durable.
In a recent survey that was conducted, Micromax stood third among Indian mobile vendors. The brand is rising fast mainly because of its affordability. And now, it seems to be showing signs of specializing and quality delivery with its x500. The excellent camera feature coupled with the great design and looks, makes this phone en excellent value for money at under Rs.5500. This is probably the best value-for-money make from Micromax because it concentrates on features that the Indian user cherishes the most.
