I have an iPhone 3GS with version 3.1.3 with an MC model. I have never unlocked it, I just jail broken with blackra1n RC3 while I was updating it to 3.1.2. I heard blackrain RC3 is supposed to be able to handle all devices on 3.1.3, whether there is jailbreak or not. I also heard about a blackrain RC4, anyone knows which one I should use.
