In the oddly reasoned world that is the cellphone industry, a manufacture can go to just about any length to gain a marketing advantage even though it may not make sense to the layman. You see, the original ROM that HTC had released with the initial shipment of Touch Diamond handsets, disabled the phone’s support for the 850MHz band and HTC then released a ROM update for its North American customers. Now the move claims to unlock the full potential of the 850MHz EDGE band for AT&T customers. Even though it still doesn’t match US 3G speeds, it makes the Diamond a tad better than before and it also makes HTC look so damn committed to improve user experience.
