BlackBerry Protect pinpoints your stolen Smartphone

BlackBerry manufacturer RIM has introduced a new application for free to locate a lost, misplaced or a stolen smartphone. The app helps locate a lost BlackBerry by pinpointing its location on a map using GPS device. It also protects the information by helping you set up a password and lock on the device from your desktop. You can even delete all stored data from the device using remote wipe feature or else add contact information to the home screen of a locked BlackBerry so it can be returned if found.

In case you’ve misplaced your smartphone, the app helps you locate the device by remotely activating a loud ringer. It also lets users backup their BlackBerry data over Wifi and restore the data onto a new BlackBerry. The BlackBerry is currently in limited Beta so that other BlackBerry users will have to wait until later this year to use Protect.
